Nap Regression

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all ended up with the same results: one morning nap that lasted from 1 1/2 to 2 hours, the rest of the day's naps were about 45 minutes each, occurring about every 2 1/2 hours.

Yesterday and today, we're back to our old schedule. No more than 45 minutes of sleep at a time. There has been no change in anything we've done. Bedtimes are the same; morning wake up times have slowly been creeping earlier and earlier. She was wide awake at 6:15 this morning.

I'm totally confused and out of ideas. I thought that maybe we had set a pattern and we were on the right track. Guess not. Looks like we're back to square one and we'll start all over.

This must be one of those "trying" times of parenthood that people talk about.

*sigh*

I know, I know, if this is the worst I have to deal with, I'm lucky. Still stinks though.

Ryan had trouble learning to nap longer than 45 min as well. 45 min is one sleep cycle at that age and it's hard for them to learn to stay asleep thru the transition, but very necessary for them and mom. I used to sneak into his room after he'd been down for about 40 min and be ready to put the binky back in his mouth before he could fully stir. Doing this for a few days helped him learn to keep sleeping. Might be worth a shot. Not sure if she's a binky kid or not, but even just a quick soothing might help. Unless, of course, your mere presence is enough to make her stir more.

Lol, just when you think you've got things figured out, they'll throw you in for a loop.

Hopefully KT gets back on the "normal" schedule soon. Just keep with what you had been doing. They're creatures of habit! :) Sometimes factors such as growing, teething, etc can make them sleep less. Just hang in there! ((hugs))

I've actually never read your blog before but came across it today. It was meant to be - because I had this same problem with my son who is now 1. I tried EVERYTHING to get him to sleep longer than 45 minutes, but he wouldn't do it. My sister-in-law kept telling me that he needed to be sleeping at least an hour and a half each time. I was always pulling out my hair at the end of the day.

Finally, one day I decided that I was not going to worry about how long he napped, but how his mood was instead. If he woke up crying from a nap, then he wasn't ready to get up yet. If he woke up happy, then he was ready. It worked like a charm. He still napped 45 minutes at a time, but we were all happy. He just napped more often than most babies. His schedule was every 3 hours to eat, then have awake time, and then sleep. I hope I've helped. Of course every baby is different!

Well poo on you! I would love a 45 minute nap from Miss Emma. She is a cat-napper and usually only goes down for 20 - 30 minutes several times a day (unless we are in the car). I am so jealous!
